Innovations-Framework

The Liechtenstein financial centre comprises a strong banking, asset management and trust sector, a thriving fund and insurance sector as well as a significant philanthropy location and a growing fintech community.

This diversity is of great importance to the Liechtenstein government, as it strengthens the resilience of the economy and improves crisis resistance. The government will therefore support all sectors with the best possible framework conditions and has developed the innovation framework for this purpose.

This is because the ability to innovate successfully is a key competence in the financial market and therefore one of the main pillars of the government’s financial centre strategy.

The Regulatory Laboratory for FinTech

The government and the Financial Market Authority want to promote innovation in the FinTech sector. They are working towards using and shaping regulation in such a way that established financial service providers and new companies can realise their business models. To this end, the regulatory laboratory was set up at the FMA’s FinTech Competence Centre.

Optimising the framework conditions with the Innovations Club

The “Innovations Club” is a government innovation format for optimising the framework conditions for entrepreneurial activity. Individual or several companies can contribute ideas for improving laws, regulations, procedures or official practice.

Liechtenstein Venture Cooperative (LVC)

An LVC is a platform for co-operation between several parties to develop an innovation. By founding an LVC, an innovator brings his idea directly into its own legal form and thus prepares the basis for easier co-operation with other know-how providers and investors.

Office for financial market innovation and digitalisation

At the core of the innovation framework and its implementation is the Financial Centre Innovation and Digitalisation Unit (SFID) as a centre of competence. The SFID reports to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and Finance and performs various tasks for the government in connection with innovation in the Liechtenstein financial centre.

On this website, the SFID provides information on the topics of promoting innovation in the financial centre, blockchain and Liechtenstein’s ecosystem.
